A final example of the way that sciences trade models back and forth is the use of statistics in science - as the name suggests, this field was invented for use in the early days of sociology; the idea of using statistical measures of a large group of entities was then borrowed by Boltzmann and Maxwell in the development of statistical mechanics - and Asimov (and those inspired by him) borrowed back the idea for use again in sociology.
